A princely state founded by the Dogra ruler Gulab Singh under the 1846 Treaty of Amritsar with the British; its accession became disputed after 1947.

• Second Anglo-Sikh War (1848–1849 CE): War that ended with the British annexation of the Punjab.
• Indo-Pakistani war of 1947–1948 (1947–1948 CE): First war between India and Pakistan, over Kashmir, which left the region divided along a ceasefire line.
