Expedition of the Thousand (1860 CE): Giuseppe Garibaldi sailed from near Genoa with about a thousand volunteers, landed at Marsala, conquered Sicily and then Naples from the Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, a decisive step in Italian unification.
