A kingdom of the central highlands of Madagascar centred on Antananarivo, which unified most of the island in the 19th century before the French conquest.

• Andrianampoinimerina (c. 1745 CE – 1810 CE): King who reunified the Merina kingdom in the central highlands of Madagascar and made Antananarivo its capital.
