A Telugu dynasty of governors who ruled from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, first as Vijayanagara vassals and then independently, known for temple building such as the Meenakshi temple complex.

• Thanjavur (c. 1534 CE): Capital of Nayaks of Thanjavur (1534–1673), Thanjavur Maratha Kingdom (1677–1799).
