A Ukrainian state that emerged from the collapse of the Russian Empire, proclaimed by the Central Rada in Kyiv. Briefly replaced by Hetman Skoropadsky's German-backed Ukrainian State in 1918, it was eventually overcome by Bolshevik forces.
